Real estate rates down overnight

Long-term mortgage interest rates dipped Monday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield rose to 3.73 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate average sank to 5.83 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate fell to 5.42 percent. Meanwhile, the 1-year adjustable rate slipped to 5.77 percent.

The 30-year Treasury bond yield held at 4.49 percent.

Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5.

In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 24.34 points, or 0.19 percent, finishing at 12,825.02. The Nasdaq was up 5.07 points, or 0.21 percent, closing at 2,408.04.
