Real estate conference hits milestone

Editor’s note: The economic downturn has not frozen attendance for the upcoming Real Estate Connect conference, scheduled Jan. 7-9 in New York City. More than 750 attendees are registered for the event, and registration is still open. Click here for more details.

Total registered attendance at the upcoming Real Estate Connect event in New York City passed the 750 mark this week — and the event is still a month away.

The annual Real Estate Connect New York City event, which will run Jan. 7-9 at the New York Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square, has a lineup of speakers that includes craigslist founder Craig Newmark, wine and Web 2.0 guru Gary Vaynerchuk (see Inman News), and economist and author Robert J. Shiller (see Inman News), to name just a few.

The conference will feature some timely discussions about the state of the market, given tightening credit and the recent glut of takeovers and takedowns that have hit particularly hard in New York City and triggered rollercoaster reactions in the stock market. The economic downturn has also had a chilling effect on housing sales and pricing in some areas.

New York City has shared the center stage with Washington, D.C., during the subprime mortgage meltdown and credit crisis, with Wall Street taking major hits as several long-standing financial companies have fallen or been acquired in a series of moves orchestrated by the federal government and/or surviving competitors.

Real estate industry professionals and technologists have been following the developments closely, as the availability of financing is critical to the health of the housing market and the economy as a whole.

The Real Estate Connect conference sessions offer insight into the current crises and shed light on a path to recovery.

Shiller’s keynote address is titled, "Finding a Fix for the Housing Market"; New York Times reporter Andrew Ross Sorkin will speak about "What to Expect from the Financial Markets in 2009"; Vaynerchuk will focus on "Building Your Personal Brand Online"; and Newmark will discuss, "How the Internet Culture is Changing the U.S." during the conference.
