Virtual RE BarCamp draws virtual crowd

The Real Estate Tomato, an agent training company, organized its second Virtual RE BarCamp Monday. The free, seven-hour, online event, featured presentations from 28 real estate industry professionals. The event drew 2,610 participants, compared to the first Virtual RE BarCamp on Nov. 17, 2009, which had 1,928 attendees.

The event is somewhat modeled on in-person RE BarCamps, which launched in August 2008 and have since spread to over 20 cities across the country. Live RE BarCamps are ad-hoc, peer-to-peer learning events. A Virtual RE Bar Camp is both accessible to anyone with an Internet connection and features scheduled presentations.

Sessions were held in four simultaneous webinar chat rooms. They included "The Real Estate Office Of The Future, Part II" by Glenn Sanford, founder of eXp Realty; "What’s The Market Telling Us?" by Mike Simonsen, co-founder of Altos Research; and "45-Minute Branding Boot Camp: ‘The Brand Called You’ " by Kendra Todd, real estate investor and a winner of "The Apprentice," a reality television show that features real estate mogul Donald Trump.

The next such event will be held in April. Video and audio from the event will be available in two weeks, the company said.
