Sawbuck launches mobile Web site

Real estate brokerage company Sawbuck Realty has launched a new location-aware mobile-ready real estate search site and has expanded its services to the San Francisco Bay Area.

In an effort to reach as many consumers as possible, the mobile Web site will work with any Web-enabled phone and will detect a user’s location using the phone’s global positioning system, or GPS. Visitors will be able to search for nearby listings and open houses and save their favorites.

The site is optimized to load quickly on slower connections, the company said, and, unlike phone applications, will not require a download or a specific mobile platform.

"It was an easy decision to focus on a mobile site instead of an application. It seems like everyone is trying to create the next killer iPhone app and ignoring the millions of people using other smartphones," said Guy Wolcott, Sawbuck’s CEO, in a statement.

The company’s expansion to the San Francisco area is its fifth new market since the beginning of 2009. The mobile site will also be available for Sawbuck’s other metropolitan areas: Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Southern California (Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire, San Diego areas), and Washington, D.C.
