Real estate search portal tests cost-per-lead model

Rightmove Overseas is experimenting with a cost-per-lead business model outside of its "core" countries.

The overseas arm of the United Kingdom’s market leading property portal has partnered with cost-per-lead marketing platform Lead Galaxy, which will handle basic property listings outside of Rightmove’s core territories.

Rightmove’s head of overseas, Robin Wilson, says the new arrangement offers clients in these areas a better deal:

"Eighty-five percent of our overseas traffic is to our core locations. Outside of this, it is much more of a risk for clients. There may not be enough traffic in Uruguay or Indonesia, for example, to justify a (monthly) ($429 in U.S. dollars) fee."

"Advertising direct with Rightmove works brilliantly in the prime destinations where we have a consistently strong audience, but we wanted an option that allows advertisers to match their budgets to the performance of their properties in countries where volumes of serious buyers are not guaranteed," Wilson said, in a statement.

Rather than develop its own cost-per-lead system, Rightmove have chosen to use Lead Galaxy’s technology. Wilson comments: "We choose Lead Galaxy because they have invested a huge amount of time and expertise creating a really well integrated pay-per-lead platform that’s head and shoulders above anything else in the marketplace."

Dan Johnson, director of Lead Galaxy, says, in a statement, that the deal adds extra credibility to their offering: "Rightmove is a powerful and trusted brand, which should form part of the marketing plan for any company looking to reach U.K. buyers. This new relationship adds a great deal of strength to the Lead Galaxy proposition for agents and developers in those countries where Rightmove will accept our listings."

Core Countries

Agents and developers selling in Rightmove’s core countries, listed here, are not affected by the new deal: Andorra, Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy , New Zealand, Northern Cyprus, Portugal, Republic of South Africa, Spain, St. Lucia, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and the U.S.

Agents and developers listing property outside of these areas can list on Rightmove through the Lead Galaxy system as part of its portal distribution service, which enables listings to appear on multiple portals, with lead prices beginning at (an estimated $14.30 in U.S. dollars).
