Share real estate market data on Facebook

Real estate data company Altos Research launched a Facebook application for market statistics today.

The "How’s the Market?" app allows Altos Research subscribers to share local market data and trends in the status feeds of their Facebook personal or business pages.

"Most apps create a tab or a page on your profile," said Michael Simonsen, Altos’ co-founder and CEO. But he said that most users typically don’t look at those, and typically don’t look "at anything beyond the news feed of status updates. So real estate agents who want to provide business value to their Facebook friends or fans need to do it in their status updates."

Once Altos subscribers install the application, drop-down menus allow them to choose stats like median price, inventory, average days on market, and median price per square foot for the locations they’ve signed up to keep track of through Altos.

Users can also choose to show the company’s proprietary Market Action Index, which tells viewers how much demand there is in a certain market.

Users can customize how the information appears, from the size of the graph they’d like the app to generate to which property type and time span they’d like to look at. The app also allows users to include a link with their results that will direct viewers to users’ own websites for more information.

"It’s very simple, but we think it’s a novel way for agents to add value and keep in contact via Facebook," Simonsen said.
