Move your blog content

Members of the real estate social media network ActiveRain can now switch all of their ActiveRain content over to free blogging platform Posterous, officials at Posterous announced this week.

This is the latest step in a Posterous campaign to provide tools for users to switch their content from other platforms to Posterous; the site targeted the social network Ning last week.

A tool will allow ActiveRain users to copy all of their content to Posterous, including blog posts, videos, and photos. The ActiveRain content will remain intact.

The copied content will be initially hosted on a private site where users can delete certain posts if they don’t want them to appear on their new Posterous site, according to Rich Pearson, Posterous’ vice president of marketing.

According to Pearson, copying users’ content over to Posterous does not violate ActiveRain’s Terms of Service, which provide that users own their contributed content and may move or copy it wherever they choose.

"This is really just an easy way to try our service. ActiveRain users have been one of the most vocal user groups in our community asking for improved blogging tools to market their listings, connect with potential clients and share local market knowledge," Pearson said.

Posterous allows its users to create blogs posts and add photos and video through e-mail or from an iPhone and automatically posts content on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter (see related story).

The service is free, although the platform will release new features at the end of the year available on a subscription basis, including new themes and new promotion tools.
