Apartment Finder releases free Android app

Apartment Finder has released a free Android version of its smartphone app, which will allow those smartphone users to search the company’s apartment rental listings, including floor plans and photos.

The app allows swipe-viewing of a listing’s features and the possibility of saving and annotating favorite listings. The company in January 2010 released an iPhone app.

Since its full release last week, the Android app has been downloaded more than 6,300 times, said Rebecca Chandler, a spokesperson for Apartment Finder.

Smartphones now account for 44 percent of all U.S. mobile subscribers, and the iPhone and Android operating systems account for 83 percent of all app downloads, according to Nielsen data.

In just 10 reviews on the Android Market website, the app’s earned a rating of 4.2 out of 5. In a couple of reviews on the site, the app was praised for its location-based apartment search function, but also criticized for its dearth of listings.
