NAREE announces annual competition for real estate writers

The National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE), founded in 1929, is ramping up for its 46th annual spring real estate conference, which will be held June 20-23 in Denver, Colo., by calling all 2011 real estate book authors to submit their books, including e-books, to the fifth annual Robert Bruss Real Estate Book Awards Competition.

The deadline to enter books, which must have been published in 2011 and whose subjects can be broadly related to real estate, including sustainable design, green building, foreclosures, investing, etc., is March 15. Members pay a $100 entry fee, nonmembers $125.

A panel of three judges will award gold, silver and bronze awards at the conference to the top three authors in the real estate book competition. The winners, and a notable first-time author, will get a share of the $2,000 total in cash prizes.

To enter the competition, submit three copies, a 5,000-word excerpt and the competition’s filled-out entry form to NAREE (see the competition’s pamphlet for details).

The NAREE spring conference, which brings together real estate journalists, analysts and experts to explore industry trends, will span four days and feature speakers and panels. Before Feb. 15, the registration fees are $99 and $299 for members and nonmembers, respectively.

NAREE’s 62nd annual real estate journalism contest, which awards both individual reporters and media groups, will also be held at the June conference. Judges will pore over entrants in more than 50 categories and select a range of winners, with top winners in each category getting a cash prize. The deadline to enter is March 1.

Along with a $1,000 top prize, a $500 best individual freelance collection award, and a $250 best young journalist award, separate $250 prizes will be handed out to individual winners in 25 categories.
