Popular neighborhood attributes: kid-friendly and hip

"Fun for Kids," "Fun and Hip," and "Most People Use Public Transportation," in that order, are the most popular attributes selected in a search tool launched last year by real estate technology firm Robot Workshop, the company announced.

The 17 neighborhood attributes that users can select from using Robot Workshop’s Neighborhood Suggester tool include: "Fun and Hip," "Local Culture," "Pet Friendly," "Golfers Paradise," "Near Everyday Needs," "Near Shopping," and "Quality Schools," among others.

The "Fun for Kids" attribute is built from an algorithm of data indicators that suggest the size of a neighborhood’s kid population, crime statistics and number of schools, among others data provided by Onboard Informatics.

The sample size for the search trends is small, given the recent launch date of the tool, said Robot Workshop CEO Seth Siegler. Neighborhood Suggester, which costs $19.95 per month, can be embedded on real estate agents’ websites and Facebook pages.

Metrolist, a multiple listing service in Colorado, has made the tool available for sale to its members.

Users can rank six of the 17 available attributes for an area. Scores are given for each of the selected neighborhood features for each suggested neighborhood, along with the neighborhood’s median house price. Up to 10 ZIP codes and/or neighborhood names are supplied for each search, which displays the results with a color overlay on a Google Map.
