Chinese Network Television (CNTV) is set to launch an overseas property portal in partnership with United Kingdom-based 3rd Space, a provider of international distribution and content services.

The service will feature residential and commercial property as well as holiday rentals and aims to be "an all-inclusive international property resource," according to a statement from CNTV yesterday.

Last year, two property portals, Lucky Wu and Juwai.com, both claimed to be "leading" this fledgling market — the former in terms of visitors and the latter in terms of property numbers.

The CNTV project represents a significant threat to both (portals) given its marketing firepower and audience reach. CNTV is part of China Central Television (CCTV), which offers live news broadcasting in six languages.

Although it is Internet-based, the company invests significant resources in news broadcasting and commands a strong following in a country where news dissemination is tightly controlled.

The portal promises agents and developers "direct access" to CNTV’s audience, but so far the company has not released details on marketing packages or costs.
