Location: Manchester, N.H.
Price: $12,500 per month
The Skinny: When the High Five restaurant, located atop one of Manchester, N.H.’s tallest buildings, closed in 1997, a determined former CEO converted the space into a 12,000-square-foot private residence.

The four-bedroom, five-bathroom glassy aerie took plenty of time and effort to get into this extremely customized state, including the use of a crane, on three separate occasions, to hoist building materials, bamboo trees, and furnishings to the 17th floor. The custom bar, constructed of poplar sheathed in bronze leaf, weighs more than a ton and was also craned into position.

What’s unclear, despite all the effort poured into this project by the CEO and his wife, is whether they actually owned the space or were simply leasing it, as the rest of the building houses 171 rental apartments. Either way, the penthouse has returned to the leasing market with the sky-high asking rent of $12,500 per month.
