Realtor tries a new tack with music video

A Realtor in North Carolina is trying (tongue-in-cheek) a new tack to get potential clients to call — making a music video. Call me, maybe?

Justin Bieber‘s done it. The Harvard Baseball team‘s done it. Katy Perry‘s done it. The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders have done it. Now a Realtor has done it.

Jessica Edwards, 30, an agent with Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty in Wilmington, N.C., got seven girlfriends together on a Monday evening a couple of weeks ago, hired her listings videographer and filmed a lip-synced music video of Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit pop song, "Call Me Maybe," currently the No. 3 single in the iTunes Music Store.

Upbeat and catchy with an alluring, simple beat, the song’s become a popular one to lip-sync remake with friends — see Bieber, Harvard, Perry above. However, this version, inspired by the many previous, is the first (we’ve seen) where an actual phone number — Edwards’ — shows up.

In the high-quality video, filmed in about six hours, mostly on that Monday evening, Edwards and her brightly bloused friends dance on a golf course, in a living room, in backyard lounge chairs; there are also pool scenes, a couple of couch scenes and a few car scenes.

Three babies (one of them Edwards’), a boy in fluorescent green slit shades and a guy show up in the video, too.

Edwards is no stranger to video — she started a video blog in January 2009 and since then has averaged roughly two videos a week. Filmed from her car, her videos typically deal with real estate-related tips and advice. Currently, her video blog comes up second in a Google search for "real estate video blog."

However, the "Call Me Maybe," video, uploaded to YouTube on July 19, is the first feature-y one she’s done, Edwards said.

Along with the bright pinks, oranges, greens, yellows and blues of the performers’ outfits, the silly, fun scenes and the general high quality of the video and editing, Edwards and her friends’ laughing smiles and silly exuberance leave a clear impression of fun.

Edwards says she hasn’t gotten any calls yet, but plenty of comments, a "lot of fun contacts." So far, it’s the third most-viewed of her 278 videos with 8,585 views as of July 25, behind a 13,382-viewed video at No. 1 titled "What’s hard about being a Realtor?" and a "Snow in Wilmington" post at No. 2 with 12,481 views. Thinking that will change.
