Zillow launching TV ad campaign

Editor’s note: This story has been corrected to note that an offering of Zillow shares that closed Sept. 24 was a follow-on offering dilutive to existing shareholders, not a secondary offering of previously issued shares.

Real estate listings and valuations portal Zillow Inc. will run its first national TV commercial this fall, a 30-second spot entitled "Find Your Home" that will air nationwide on ABC Family, HGTV, CNN, the Travel Channel and other networks, the company announced today.

Zillow spokeswoman Katie Curnutte said the commercial features a woman searching for homes on Zillow, imagining her family in one of those homes, and ultimately contacting an agent advertising their services on the site, saying, "I think this could be the one."

Zillow, which sells "Premier Agent" ads to real estate agents, raised $156.7 million in a follow-on offering of company shares announced Sept. 6. In a regulatory filing earlier this month, the company said it intended to "pursue strategic opportunities, including commercial relationships and acquisitions, to strengthen our market position, enhance our capabilities and accelerate our growth."

Last week Zillow filed a patent infringement suit against rival Trulia, alleging that Trulia’s automated property valuations infringe on a patent issued to Zillow last year.

Trulia is currently preparing for an initial public offering, having filed papers with securities regulators in August.
