Re/Max founder publishes memoir

A memoir by Re/Max LLC co-founder and Chairman Dave Liniger documents his harrowing recovery from a life-threatening infection last year that left him facing the possibility of lifelong paralysis.

“My Next Step: An Extraordinary Journey of Healing and Hope,” debuted on Amazon.com today.

Liniger — an Air Force veteran who co-founded Re/Max in 1973 after serving in Vietnam — was waylaid by a staph infection along his spine that forced doctors to put him in a drug-induced coma for four weeks.

After surviving organ failure and “flat-lining” at one point during his hospitalization, Liniger spent months in rehabilitation.

“The experience took this self-made business icon to the brink of despair,” according to a description of “My Next Step,” by the book’s publisher. “But, supported by family, friends, health care professionals and a lifetime of positive influences, he refused to quit, battling back and building a goal-oriented plan to survive.”
