The night before Christmas: Not a deal was closing, not even 1 house

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a deal was closing, not even one house
The signs were all out, and invites sent with care
In the hopes that a buyer would soon be there.

The lender and title officer were snug in their beds
While reams of paper danced in their heads
With my iPhone in one hand, and in the other my Nook
I had just settled in for a marketing session on Facebook.

When from outside I heard people engaging
I sprang to my feet, being careful not to upset the staging
Peering from the window my eyes filled with life
“A buyer,” I murmured, a little old man and his wife.

He was jolly and round with long beard and red suit
Her eyes bright as she pointed to the tree and said, “Oh Dear, look fruit!”
I invited them in, and my eyes gave great pause
In that moment I realized it was Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

I was shocked, flabbergasted, and amazed
“It’s an honor to meet you,” I said almost dazed
Jolly ol’ St. Nick jiggled as he laughed
While on his arm Mrs. Claus clasped.

“Now Dasher, and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen;
Also Comet, Cupid, Donner, Rudolph, and Blitzen,”
Mrs. Claus cried, “They are all older and grown
so the coop they have flown.”

Santa then proclaimed, “Now that it’s an empty nest
a warmer climate seemed best.
So the Mrs. now seeks a nice Cape Cod, a beach view
A pool, landscaping, and a fruit tree or two.”

My listing seemed to fit,
And I filled out a contract lickety-split
St. Nick and the Mrs. signed on line and
I thought, “Wow, this Christmas has been divine.”

The couple got back into their Buick sedan
And down the street they ran
I heard the Jolly old man recite
“Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”
