How to solve the UK’s low-inventory woes

U.K.-based real estate consultant Sam Ashdown.

NEW YORK — Inventory is extremely tight in the United Kingdom, but it needn’t be, says U.K.-based real estate consultant Sam Ashdown at Real Estate Connect New York City.

Plenty of homeowners would put their homes on the market if it were easier to do so. U.K.’s stressful cultural traditions around home selling — interviewing three agents, talking agents down from an already-low commission — keep potential home sellers on the sideline, Ashdown said.

She sees a big opportunity for an innovator to help release the pent-up supply by developing a technology that makes it more intelligible and approachable for homeowners to sell their homes.
