Franchisor Re/Max LLC has sold franchise rights to the Caribbean and Central America, carving out a new region for the Dominican Republic in the process.

Re/Max Caribbean and Central America is now owned by broker-owners John and Lucinda Turley of Belize, and Ricardo and Teresa Cardenas of El Salvador.

Ricardo Cardenas bought one of the region’s first offices in 1995, and was recruited to work for Re/Max LLC in Denver five years later. As president for the region, he is credited with growing it from 500 sales associates in 2005 to more than 4,000 today.

“After owning a brokerage in the region and then working for Re/Max LLC in Denver, I’m excited to move back to El Salvador to work more closely with our membership in the region and promote a new era of growth,” Cardenas said in a statement.

Turley has owned two successful brokerages in Belize, and was recognized as the No. 1 Re/Max global sales associate in 2013.

A new Re/Max Dominican Republic region has also been created, and is owned by Mélido and Marianela Marte of Santo Domingo, 25-year real estate veterans who have owned a brokerage in the country, Re/Max Metropolitana, since 1997.  The couple, who were honored with Re/Max’s “Owner of the Year” award in 1998, 2001 and 2007, plan to expand the franchise region to all major markets in the Dominican Republic.
