Realtor.com grows New York City footprint

Realtor.com’s listing database in the Big Apple is getting thousands of new listings thanks to new agreements with five brokerages and listing syndication platform RealPlus.

In addition to securing listings from Bond New York, Brown Harris Stevens, Compass, Halstead Property and Nest Seekers, the portal has added new search filters and property types to help streamline how consumers search the portal for homes in New York City.

Realtor.com’s deal with New York City-focused RealPlus also gives the portal an avenue to connect with the more than 300 brokerages that use the platform to manage their listings and customers.

“Realtor.com is laser-focused on enhancing its presence in the highly sought-after New York City market,” Ryan O’Hara, CEO of realtor.com operator Move Inc., said in a statement. “We expect a larger New York footprint will help amplify the flow of prestigious properties to realtor.com and lay the groundwork for a more lucrative digital advertising platform.”

Realtor.com’s listing coverage in New York City has been thinner than in other areas because, unlike most U.S. markets, the city doesn’t have a traditional multiple listing service, the primary source of realtor.com’s listings throughout the country.

“Our clients deserve the best possible exposure for their listings and we are firm believers of the strength of realtor.com,” said James Cahill, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Terra Holdings, parent company of Brown Harris Stevens and Halstead Property.

Move’s chief competitor, Zillow Group, has built a strong presence in New York City on the back of StreetEasy, the popular New York City search portal Zillow acquired for $50 million in 2013.
