Rental search app for Apple Watch touted as Canada’s first

Expanding a long track record of innovation, the Canadian rental search service RentCompass has unveiled what it says is the first Canadian apartment search app.

The app lets users search for rentals, access listings on a user’s favorites list and receive notifications when they’re near properties that match their search preferences.

Other real estate tech firms that have rolled out Apple Watch apps include tech-centric brokerages Redfin and Estately, rental site Zumper, for-sale property search site Trulia and real estate mobile app developer Homesnap.

Apple Watch apps may benefit prospective consumers the most by helping them keep an even closer eye on listings through the use of property alerts that immediately pop up in their field of vision — on their wrists — more often than smartphone notifications.

RentCompass says its Smart Watch app, which complements a mobile phone app, solidifies its status as a first mover in Canada, the firm said.

The company says it was the first of its kind to build a mobile app and a Facebook app with integration, and feature near-field communication, which refers to technology that enables smartphones to communicate with various devices, and automated pricing updates.
