“In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” –– Mark Twain

While we’re not off the hook for paying taxes, Dr. Aubrey de Grey believes that we may be able to avoid (or at least prolong) our until-now inevitable mortality.

According to the May 2010 census, by 2030, the segment of the U.S. population aged 65 and older will double to about 71 million older adults, or 1 in every 5 Americans. Extending our life expectancy will mean unprecedented demands on the health care system, aging services and the overall economy.

But what if we could avoid age-related diseases and illnesses? What if we could extend not only our life expectancy, but our mental and physical health, by another 50 years … or longer?

Dr. Aubrey de Grey is a biomedical gerontologist based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and Mountain View, California, and is the chief science officer of SENS Research Foundation, a California-based 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to combating the aging process. His research interests encompass the characterization of the accumulating and eventually pathogenic molecular and cellular side effects of metabolism (“damage”) that constitute mammalian aging, and the design of interventions to repair and/or obviate that damage.

In other words, Dr. de Grey is disrupting death.

Dr. de Grey will be at Inman Connect San Francisco to discuss his crusade to combat the aging process and how technological progress and an intervention on aging affect the real estate industry.

“Why Dr. de Grey, you ask?” said Inman Publisher Brad Inman. “Because science and technology are turning our world upside down, including real estate. Plus, I promise you’ll know why this topic is relevant to our industry after he speaks.”

Consider this: If the government can minimize the cost of elderly care down the road by investing money in Dr. de Grey’s research today, what will this mean for the real estate industry? Join us at ICSF2015 to find out.
