We invited the Twittersphere to tweet questions to Ryan Serhant using #AskRyanSerhant, and this is what emerged — with Ryan’s advice added.

@BiasottiT asks: What are the top qualities of successful brokers like yourself?

The most successful brokers are the ones with endurance (they don’t give up) and amazing social skills (they’re your best friend in two minutes).

The best brokers have big personalities, and they are on the go 24/7.  Their personality alone is a brand and a marketing tool for them — it’s something clients can remember. At the end of the day, being remembered is all you need to secure more business.

@Jcasg44 asks: What top three books do you recommend?

@Laur_DeSha asks: What is the best way to get started in real estate?

I think about this question a lot because it’s a question people ask me almost every day. The simple answer is just to get your license, find a brokerage and hit the pavement.

Everyone on the street is a potential client, so you should never be bored. Obviously, that answer is a bit vague, and you have lingering questions: “What brokerage?” “By myself?”

I would find a great broker at a stellar firm and do whatever it takes to be on their team. Spend the first year being an assistant — listening in the background.

Listen to how the broker talks. Watch how he gets leads and clients. If you’re inquisitive and show that you can work hard, any great broker will bring you onto their team full time. The last thing they would want you to do is leave after learning all of their trade secrets.
