Jacky Teplitzky: ‘We will work more like advisers rather than agents’

Jacky Teplitzky leads The Jacky Teplitzky team at Douglas Elliman

Did you imagine when you were younger that you’d be a top producer?

I did, as I didn’t have a choice. I needed to succeed at all costs.

What sets you apart?

My background sets me apart. I was born in Chile and raised in Israel, where I served as a sergeant in the Israeli army. I also differentiate myself by implementing successful marketing techniques, always thinking outside of the box, taking chances and using forward thinking.

How did you get there?

Very hard work; brick by brick. Choosing the right mentors, always looking to learn something new and (the main thing) investing in the business as an entrepreneur.

Describe your job — where are you located, what types of properties do you work with, what types of clients do you work with?

I am located in New York City and Miami, and I work mainly with high net worth individuals. I specialize in working with foreign buyers on purchasing their second homes and investment properties.

Where did you start?

I started in NYC in a small company that doesn’t exist anymore, MLBKaye.

Are you part of a team or are you doing it solo?

I’m the leader of The Jacky Teplitzky team, a group of elite, licensed real estate professionals who have sold more than $1 billion worth of Manhattan and South Florida real estate

What does your admin support team look like?

I have an office manager and a team’s operation coordinator.

Who are your heroes?

Golda Meir and Margaret Thatcher.

What’s the first thing you do when you get to work in the morning? What’s the last thing you do before you leave?

First, I check in with my office manager and team members to get an update on what’s on our schedule for the day. The last thing I do is prepare my to-do list for the following day.

What’s the first thing you do when you’re off work for the day?

Check on my kids and have dinner with them.

What’s your favorite place to unwind?

Definitely the beach.

What areas of your business do you pay personal attention to? What have you outsourced?

Marketing, branding and business planning. I outsource PR.

What do you think is the biggest barrier to success in today’s real estate industry? How have you overcome it?

The consumer thinks they don’t need us, as they have a lot of information in their hands. To overcome that, we’ve changed the way we present ourselves to the consumer.

We explain the data to them and guide them through the real estate maze. We will work more like advisers rather than agents.

How do you deal with stress?

I go to the gym to unwind and distress.

If you could change anything about your career path, would you? Why or why not?

I would have invested myself more in properties rather than just in brokerage.
