Last year was a big one for Miami-area real estate. Even though a distressed backlog still exists, many Floridians – or wannabe Floridians – are looking to prominent builders for a brand-new piece of South Florida real estate.

D.R. Horton is the largest home construction company in the United States. The Fort Worth, Texas, headquartered company sold more than 37,000 homes across the country in fiscal 2015.

In a recent ranking from the South Florida Business Journal, D.R. Horton’s Southeast Florida division contributed 408 closings to South Florida’s overall sales volume. The publication ranked the top South Florida builders for homes sold for the period that ended March 31, 2015.

In an email, D.R. Horton representatives responded to questions about what goes into D.R. Horton’s South Florida success.

According to its website, Donald R. Horton’s company began in 1978, and now encompasses a family of brands. In that time, D.R. Horton has delivered more than 520,000 homes to its customers. For each of the past 14 years, the company has been the largest homebuilder by volume in the US.

D.R. Horton, Inc. is a publicly traded company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange as DHI.

The company says that it caters to both first-time and move-up homebuyers. Their communities are staffed with sales agents who are ready to assist potential buyers with the whole home buying process.

They hope to build on their 2015 success by continuing to do what they know – offering new home communities that appeal to a broad range of entry-level, move-up and luxury homebuyers. Ultimately they keep their eyes on the biggest prize: to be the leading builder in every market that they operate.

A D.R. Horton buyer can expect to find a community that is rich with amenities, the company says. Their communities often offer amenities such as gated entrances, community pools and cabanas in addition to easy access to major freeways, shopping and restaurants.

For 2016, the company says that the lure of South Florida including its beautiful weather and beaches will continue to attract even more buyers from all over the world to its growing housing market. Over the coming year, they have many community openings planned, and say that they are focused on each one of them being successful.

That success, they says, is due to hard work and a focus on offering value-priced entry-level, move-up and luxury homes for our customers in desirable locations.
