Throughout the nation’s largest metros, each has a gem of a neighborhood filled with some of the most luxurious real estate.

Engel & Völkers North America decided to rank them, recently releasing its top 10 list of the most expensive suburbs in America.

From coast to coast and north to south, these wealthy neighborhoods are home to great schools, beautiful landscapes and storied pasts.

According to the report, San Jose’s Los Altos Hills and Bel Air in Los Angeles are the most expensive communities in the country. Both had a reported median home price value of $3.45 million.

Once quietly home to a scenic landscape, Los Altos Hills is now one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Silicon Valley. An oasis for tech giants seeking solace, it homes are known for their larger plots and views of the South and East Bay. Los Altos Hills’ crown jewel is the Pathway System that boasts 85 miles of trails accessible to runners, bikers, horseback riders and more.

In L.A., Bel Air might be one of the most iconic luxury neighborhoods in the nation. Celebrities abound in this glamorous community along the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. While still in arm’s reach of downtown L.A., Bel Air remains quiet and lush– perhaps it’s the secluded neighborhoods.

On the other coast in New York, the most luxurious community is known best as the home of Sarah Lawrence College. With a deeply rooted history and the architecture to prove it, Bronxville is a hub for the wealthy. The median home price here is $2,325,000.

The community is located right on the Bronx River and is about 15 miles from the city in Westchester County.

Three Texas communities made the list, in all major cities but Houston. San Antonio’s Terrell Hills has a median home sales price of $1,322,497 and ranked as the second-most luxurious for the Lone Star State behind Dallas’ Westlake.

Terrell Hills is not only wealthy with money, the area is known for its cultural vibrancy as well. Home to Broadway Street, The Riverwalk, Witte Museum and more, the community has much to offer its residents. It’s also known for the San Antonio Country Club among other private and exclusive golf and tennis clubs.

Houston’s Southside Place has a median home sales price of $1,252,628 and is actually just one neighborhood. Spanning just 10 blocks, Southside Place is Houston’s small, hidden gem of luxury. The community is known for its fabulous school system and recreation for all ages, and it’s only a short drive from downtown Houston.

With one of the Midwest’s most iconic attractions nearby, Chicago’s Glencoe is no shocker to have made the list. The community hugs Lake Michigan and the Cook County Forest Preserve in the North Shore. Glencoe’s median home price is $1.3 million, and it’s price tag also comes with easy access to downtown Chicago.

Other communities that made the list include Westlake in Dallas, Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego, Paradise Valley in Phoenix and Bryn Mawr in Philadelphia.
