Until November 1, Florida residents interested in going back to school and starting a career in real estate can get their hands on a scholarship through the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) Education and Research Scholarships program.

As of September 19, FREC is offering scholarship opportunities to Florida residents enrolled in an accredited Florida college or university and pursuing a degree in real estate or with a concentration in real estate.

The Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation funds the scholarship, and the Florida Realtors Education Foundation is the administrator for the scholarship of the fourth year in a row.

Real estate students in Florida may be awarded for both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Those students must currently be enrolled in a real estate-concentrated program or expecting to start one in the spring. Winners will get either $1,500 for undergraduate studies or $2,500 for graduate studies for the spring 2017 semester.

Only students who are residents of the Sunshine State can apply and qualify for the scholarships, and they must be enrolled in a degree with a concentration in real estate studies or enrolled in real estate courses in the coming semester. Students pursuing a minor degree with a focus on real estate are not eligible for the scholarship program.

Graduate students are required to earn a 3.0 overall grade point average to qualify, and undergraduate students need a 2.0 grade point average. School transcripts must be submitted with the application.

To be considered a resident of Florida, applicants must be attending an accredited Florida public institution. Applicants must also submit their spring 2017 class schedule and official transcripts. All applications must be submitted online.

Students who have previously applied for the scholarship are still eligible to apply each September.
