Where are the best public school districts in the Bay Area?

Homebuyer needs and wants aren’t universal, but those with children share at least one of the same demands: good schools.

Niche.com provides thousands of reviews, polls and data on schools throughout the nation, which are then used to rank the top Bay Area public school districts, basing it on student and parent reviews, state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores and teacher quality.

Here’s how school districts across the Bay Area scored:

Acalanes Union High School District

Acalanes Union High School District in Lafayette, California, is ranked the no. 1 public school district in the Bay Area. It holds five separate schools with 5,344 students total in grades 9-12. The district is ranked fifth in the state, receiving an A in all categories except student culture and diversity, for which it scored a B.

Piedmont City Unified School District

Piedmont City Unified School District holds seven schools with a total of 2,644 students. Piedmont City School District is sixth in the state, with a combined rating of 4.2/5 from parents and students.

Tamalpais Union High School District

In Northwest Marin Township, Tamalpais Union High School District has five schools with 4,060 high school students total. It’s ranked third in the Bay Area and ninth in California, receiving an A+ in both academics and teacher quality.

Pleasanton Unified School District

Ranked 10th in the Golden State, Pleasanton Unified School District has 16 total schools with almost 15,000 students between kindergarten and 12th grade and received an A+ in both academics and teacher quality.

 San Ramon Valley Unified School District

Located in Central Contra Costa Township, San Ramon Valley Unified School District holds 36 total schools, k-12. Over 30,000 students are in the district, which is ranked 21st in the state.

San Mateo Union High School District

Eight schools in San Mateo County’s high school district educate a little over 8,000 students. San Mateo Union High School District is rated 26th in California and received at least a B- in all categories except health and safety (C+).

Berkeley Unified School District

Over 10,000 students attend the 19 schools in Berkeley Unified School District, which is ranked 30th in California. The district received at least a B- in all categories except sports and fitness, for which it scored a C.

Albany City Unified School District

Albany City Unified School District has seven schools, grades k-12. The Alameda County district is ranked 33rd in the state and has a combined rating of 3.8/5 from parents and students.

Sequoia Union High School District

Sequoia Union High School District is comprised of 10 high schools in San Mateo County with over 9,000 students. It’s ranked 39th in California and received an A+ for student culture and diversity.

Dublin Unified School District

Located in Livermore-Pleasanton Township, Dublin Unified School District is comprised of 10 schools and 8,270 students. Dublin Unified is ranked 41st in the state, with a combined score of 3.8/5 from parents and students.
