What you need to know to be a Realtor of the future

“Real estate rockstars and rock n’ roll rockstars have a lot in common,” according to John Heithaus.

“Don’t be surprised when people act like people. Rockstars are people, too. Relate to them.”

A third-generation real estate professional with over 30 years of executive experience with national real estate firms like Prudential Real Estate, Coldwell Banker, Cartus/Realogy and MRIS, Heithaus now runs two record labels in Nashville and has professionally performed with members of Billy Joel’s and Elton John’s bands among many others.

Recognizing the parallels of high-maintenance egos in both industries, he knows how to deal with the life and personalities that come with live music and real estate.

John will take the stage during Inman Connect New York, January 17 through 20, for his general session talk, “What Will a Realtor Look Like in 2012 with AI, Bots & Machine Learning.”

We caught up with John to give us a preview of what he expects things to look like in the future and to tell us how real estate professionals can start to prepare for the coming change.

What do you think a Realtor will look like in 2021?

Experts from McKinsey believe that 43 percent of a Realtor’s work today can be automated and performed by robots.

As a result, the Realtor of 2021 will be a full-time professional knowledge broker surrounded by a pervasive stream of real-time data and comprehensive insights from strong AI.

Today’s notions of a personal  computer or smart phone will disappear, and devices will be much smaller and highly portable when minds and machines truly integrate to become one.

What tips would you give agents/brokers to prepare for the changes you see on the horizon?

1. Rebuild your business to a Customer First Digital Organization

2.Understand that new success metrics (for example, social benchmarking and agent ratings) differ greatly from the ones used in the past (for example, market share). Create a new framework for your own success metrics and inject them into your company’s business models.

3. It’s all about the community and truly raving fans! Invest in technology that binds your prospects and clients to your brand.

Don’t miss this session any many others that will help you prepare to turn vision into results in 2017 and beyond.
