Meet the Inman Ambassadors: Jacy Riedmann

The Inman community is made up of the best and brightest in real estate. And connecting this diverse, enthusiastic group of real estate professionals is an important part of our mission.

Inman Ambassadors are members of the Inman community who volunteer at each event to make introductions, help new attendees find their way and bring the spirit of connection alive. They connect the dots between the online and the offline, facilitate learning, and are a key part of making all the networking opportunities so successful.

We’re profiling each of the Inman Ambassadors so you can get to know them before the event.

Jacy Riedmann hails from Austin, Texas, and is the VP, Amoura Productions, Photography and Video. Her expertise in imagery gives her the perfect angle from which to approach real estate — visually.

What is one thing people will be surprised to know about you?

I am ordained to marry people and I do so as a red or blue dragon at Renaissance Faires.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your business right now?

Similar to real estate agents, our business has a lot of inexperienced individuals showing up with a camera and claiming to be a pro. Explaining that there’s always less for less, and the true value of working with an experienced vendor over someone newer/cheaper, is a challenge as gear gets cheaper and lessens the barrier to entry. Agents deal with this with an all-time-high level of Realtors who are not necessarily interested in the code of ethics or educating themselves to the level of expertise other agents strive for.

What is your best Connect productivity hack/tip?

Use your cell phone camera to catch pictures of speaker slides, business cards, and vendor materials so that you don’t have to write things down furiously, or carry extra materials in your bag. Also, follow up/connect instantly with the cards you gather. You’ll meet so many people that if you don’t do it quickly, you may forget. It’s best to send a quick friend request or email right away and include your contact info and a tidbit of memorable information from your meeting. Sometimes I just hand people my phone and have them find themselves on Facebook for me.

What do you think will be the biggest change in real estate in the next year?

I think more and more agents and teams are adapting a more active and hands on role in their business currently. The front-runners know that technology is simply a conduit that only works when understood and utilized properly. It becomes a threat only when it is ignored or misused/misunderstood. Agents will continue to empower themselves instead of looking to their brokerage for all the answers. Cyber security and blockchain will continue to grow as potential players; whether it be this year or a little further down the road, it’s definitely worthy of us focusing some energy there on what those tools can do for us.
