Here, the New York Post‘s Hedge Fund Reporter Carleton English chats with leaders in the software and real estate industries about trends in the real estate technology space onstage at Inman Connect Las Vegas.

The three panelists participating in the discussion were: Simon Chen, president and CEO of the ERA Real Estate Group; Chris Gough, managing director of investment bank GCA Global; and Scott Smith, president of the real estate software conglomerate the Constellation Real Estate Group.

The business leaders discussed the principles behind their acquisition strategies, which are all different. The two trends that they all noted was the tsunami of money that’s entering the real estate technology space, and the kinds of companies they’re interested in. Hint: The foundation of these companies is data.

“What that has driven this is the growth of some real scale leaders, and using some of their capital to purchase other assets,” Chen said. “We’re seeing the establishment of platform businesses in the residential real estate business category, who are making end-to-end solutions and making acquisitions in the point solutions businesses that can service the entire spectrum of agents, brokerages and teams.”
