End-to-end rental platform will run criminal background checks on applicants

Rental site Zumper now allows the brokers and landlords who use its platform to market their rental properties to run full criminal and eviction background checks on prospective tenants.

The site began allowing renters to tie credit checks performed by Experian Marketing Services to their applications last year. Renters pay one flat fee of $10 to set up their digital Zumper rental application that includes the credit and background checks.

Zumper pulls background checks using county and state searches with results including unlawful detainers, court actions, sex offenders and other info, Zumper CEO Anthemos Georgiades told Inman.

By bringing the process online, Zumper, along with competitors Cozy and Lovely (now owned by rental conglomerate RentPath Inc.), is making the rental application and screening process much easier for landlords and renters alike. Cozy is also helping landlords digitally collect rent.

Launched nationwide in 2013, Zumper raised $6.5 million in a funding round last March and has its eye on becoming the leader in the rental marketplace by building a complete end-to-end rental marketplace.
