  • Hugely popular: Tumblr has well over 420 million users (other estimates put it at 460 million) that engage, on average, for at least 20 minutes per session. One of the primary sources for all things viral.
  • Flexible: Tumblr publishes video, music, animations and images as easily as text. It’s highly stable and encourages sharing.

Things to consider:

  • You can be called out. Tumblr communities are young, hyper-present and intelligent. Get too “salesy” and your content will be run over.

Tumblr is the one social media tool most agents aren’t familiar with — but they should be because it’s the fastest-growing network in its space.

Yahoo purchased it recently for more than $1 billion, and its profits have exploded.

Don’t think Ms. Mayer won’t find a way to better integrate Tumblr’s features into business. If she manages to do that without alienating its core user base, it’ll become an even more powerful influencer of content.

Tumblr has a number of great-looking professional themes that can showcase listing galleries or a stream of day-in-the-life captures. The more creative you are with your real estate content, the more your blog will stand out.

Its bold button icons make every feature action easy to grasp and execute.

The software’s mobile app is incredibly streamlined and fun to use. You can also drop a bookmark tool on your browser window to capture clips and pages. Grab your own listing’s page and send it straight to your blog.

Agents taking on video will want to see where Yahoo takes Tumblr; its user base’s shift toward fast video will no doubt be a focus going forward.

Website designers are increasingly using Tumblr as the de facto hub of dynamic content on the clients’ sites, leveraging its usability to measurable benefits.

Tumblr is unique, make no mistake. And frankly, it may take time to understand just what is going on out there.

Rest assured, you may be one of the only agents in your ZIP code trying to understand it.

If there’s a way to crack the millennial homebuying market via the Web, Tumblr will no doubt be one of the crucial parts of the combination.
