A staple in Houston’s Museum District will soon be adding to its appeal for locals. The current owners of La Colombe d’Or Hotel, Hines real estate firm and TIAA Global Asset Management are working together to develop the Residences at La Colombe d’Or, a luxury residence tower.
“La Colombe d’Or is one of those unique Houston gems that makes our city so special,” Hines founder and chairman Gerald D. Hines said in a statement. “We look forward to working hand-in-hand with the Zimmerman family to be a part of the next chapter in the legacy of this celebration of enriched living.”
The hotel and restaurant sits on a one-acre plot, and the historic structure will stay as-is, developers say. The landmark property was built in 1923 and is slated to undergo a $10 million renovation and expansion.
Climbing 34 stories, the planned residential tower will feature 285 units. Construction is expected to begin in 2017 and be completed by 2020.
Like traveling to a resort of the past, the property will feature an on-site art gallery and outdoor plaza with fireplace, as well as green space totaling 14,000 square feet. An additional 17 luxury guest rooms will be onsite.

Owners and operators of the building for the 36 years, the Zimmerman family will play a role in the construction and renovations. Steve Zimmerman, son of the hotel’s owner, told the Houston Chronicle that it’s important to keep the brand alive in the city.
Located at 3410 Montrose Blvd., the building is located in the Museum District, where 19 museums and galleries are dotted. The area is also near the popular Upper Kirby District and some of Houston’s best restaurants and night life.
