Bravo star addresses lack of gender diversity on ‘Million Dollar Listing’

Million Dollar Listing New York star Ryan Serhant thinks Bravo should include a leading woman to address the show’s lack of gender diversity.

“There should be [women on the show],” Serhant said during a conversation with Rutenberg Realty President Stefani Berkin at an event hosted by the Real Estate Board of New York in New York City on Friday. “It’s not my decision, but I wish it was.”

“The hard part is, it’s very hard for viewers to watch men and women fighting,” he added, offering a somewhat bizarre explanation for Bravo’s decision not to include more women on the show, now in its 10th season.

Serhant said Bravo has considered adding a woman every single year, since the show’s inception in 2006. The show’s West Coast iteration added Tracy Tutor Maltas in 2017.

He said Bravo is all about drama and fighting, unlike reality channel counterpart HGTV. The shows work best when it’s a group of men or “six women on the Upper East Side” fighting, he said. “When you start to mix it, people change the channel.”

Serhant’s offered a solution: follow two groups of three men and three women.

But as he mentioned, it’s not up to him.
