Competition in the Carolinas is heating up: Sotheby’s International Realty today announced the launch of its seventh brokerage in North Carolina. Pine Sotheby’s International Realty, an independently-owned and operated team of four agents that serves the regions of Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Whispering Pines, Carthage, Aberdeen, and Seven Lakes.

“The Sandhills Region is a historic resort community that offers residents golf, equestrian and sporting lifestyles,” said Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates LLC president and CEO Philip White in a statement. “The residential real estate market in this area caters to many of the lifestyles that exemplify the Sotheby’s International Realty brand and we are proud to welcome Pines Sotheby’s International Realty to our global network.”

Pines Sotheby’s International Realty will continue to be owned and operated by Kelly Miller, Melody McClelland, and Keith Harris, who founded the company in August 2018.

The announcement comes amid big industry moves in the region. Last month, Howard Hanna announced it was acquiring a majority share in the Allen Tate Companies, the largest real estate company in the Carolinas with 47 offices.

“As a young company, our affiliation with the Sotheby’s International Realty brand allows for instant brand recognition, credibility, and trust; Pines Sotheby’s International Realty is locally owned and globally connected,” said McClelland in a prepared statement.

“Furthermore, we are dedicated to creating an environment that allows our agents to flourish, which, in turn, will enable us to best serve our clients.”

Pines SIR joins its fellow North Carolina brokerages Highlands Sotheby’s International Realty, Hodge & Kittrell Sotheby’s International Realty, Landmark Sotheby’s International Realty, Perry & Co. Sotheby’s International Realty, Pinnacle Sotheby’s International Realty, and Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.

In addition to expanding its footprint in North Carolina, the brokerage on Sept. 25 acquired Acton Real Estate through its Boston-based Barrett Sotheby’s International Realty office. With the deal, Barrett now has 145 agents across six offices in the Greater Boston Area.

Worldwide, Sotheby’s has 22,000 affiliated independent sales associates located in 960 offices across 72 countries and territories. In the past year, the company has raked in a sales volume of $108 billion.
