“We really got into real estate for the flexibility and the financial income,” said Stephanie Lanier, broker and owner of The Lanier Property Group. “Remember why you’re doing it and what this is about and what this is for.”

In 2010, Stephanie Lanier’s world fell apart: One morning she couldn’t wake up her nearly 2-year-old son Oliver; she then raced him to the hospital where doctors believed his brain was bleeding. Later, Oliver was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called tuberous sclerosis complex.

The medical bills associated with Oliver’s care were the impetus for social-worker-turned-stay-at-home-mom Lanier to get into real estate. Happier and healthier today, he has 60 hours a week of care in the Laniers’ home, which Lanier manages on top of her business and personal life.

Listen in as Lanier recounts her story and argues that real estate agents can — and should — balance the various challenges of their personal lives with their careers to the Inman Connect New York audience.
