Compass is allowing its agents to be more nomadic through its new Compass Anywhere program, which will now allow the company’s more than 10,000 agents to work from any Compass office, providing technology and support services no matter where they land.

In dense urban markets like New York or San Francisco, Compass leases multiple offices, allowing agents to work in whatever area of town they are meeting clients. The program is designed to save agents time and doesn’t give them any one desk or space.

“Time is the last luxury,” Leonard Steinberg, Compass’ chief evangelist said in a statement. “For agents, any tool or service that saves valuable time is most desirable. Compass Anywhere provides a luxury experience by creating efficiency.”

A Compass told Inman that the new, flexible program has nothing to do with a lack of office space for the ever-expanding brokerage. The source also told Inman that just under 20 percent of Compass’ more than 10,000 agents are currently participating in the program.

Compass has been piloting flexible working programs since 2017 and launched it nationwide in February 2019.

Agents that want the traditional arrangement of working from their own desk do not have to give that up.

“I can work from anywhere, and that’s been paramount to my career,” Compass agent Zachary Hassan said in a statement. “I’ve worked out of every single Compass office in New York City.”

The source was also clear that this program doesn’t mean Compass is shifting towards a virtual office working experience and that the in-person client experience was still integral to the company’s business model.
