Do a quick scan of your professional and social circles. Place yourself in various scenarios. In each one, are people gravitating toward or away from you during your conversations? Do you feel uncomfortable building rapport with strangers?

If so, you might be conversationally incompetent.

Your ability to speak clearly with others face-to-face is the most valuable skill you can cultivate. Monitor your thinking and don’t let your ego dominate the conversation. Genuinely pay attention. Listen. And don’t fake it if you want to make it.

In case you missed parts one and two of our tips for exuding competence in your conversations, today in our concluding podcast, we address the importance of brevity, how you make others feel, follow-up, staying in service and tuning into the personal details.

Check yourself against these warning signs and then apply these simple rules so you can make it –without being seen as insincere.
