Top comments of the week Nov. 28-Dec. 2

The real estate world keeps spinning, even through food comas and long weekends.

This week readers commented on their favorite holiday gifts, excitement about young agents in the field, an FSBO startup that’s getting the side-eye from Washington regulators, that gut-wrenching moment when you have to let a client (and a potential commission check) go — and more.

Here’s some of the feedback, gathered from across the site, that stood out to the Inman editorial staff.

Adriana Bartlett Gray · Commented on The ultimate holiday gift guide for real estate agents

In the category of dream gifts that are impossible, I would love one extra day per week that nobody else knows about. The whole rest of the world just holds still. I could use this time to read, clean, do my laundry, binge watch Netflix w/no guilt that I am taking away from work or family.

Andrew Wetzel · Commented on You’re fired! When is it OK to dump a client?

Timely article as we prepare for 2017. Two thoughts. First, I respectfully recommend that agents talk to their Broker/ Manager before the situation escalates since the representation contract is with the Broker even if the agent is a “designated agent.” Perhaps the Broker/ Manager can mediate whatever is happening or even assign the client to another agent (perhaps there is a better “fit. Also, generating leads costs money!). Second, do not air the issue on social media. No one is impressed by agents “bragging” that they fired someone and you never know who may read your post. Even worse perhaps is the agent seeking advice from a largety unknown audience.

Leora Hartman · Commented on What are real estate agents thankful for this year?

I am thankful that my 38 years in this crazy career allow me to work for myself, play when I need too, and live in the manner I decide that is important to me.

Stuart Clapham · Commented on Realtor live streams locking himself on roof

I’ve been addicted to the feed as well.. John is raising money for a great cause. He has been on the roof since Friday and is so committed he wont leave until he raises the $25K. So far he has slept on the roof in a tent for 4 nights and endured some crazy challenges while raising over $10K. He is getting close to the half way mark and may be on the roof for more than a week unless more donations start rolling in. If you have the ability to donate some money, lets all support this great cause.

Fran Williamson Hoover · Commented on Regulator cracks down on FSBO service

If only every transaction were simple. I am certain there are folks who would take out their own appendix. How difficult can it be? It’s day surgery after all. Real estate transaction or appendectomy? Simple…until they are not. Most of the time they are not.

Chester County Properties & Lifestyle · Commented on Human satisfaction: Can a bot fake it?

Technology is most definitely changing the face of real estate as we know it today. Intelligent bots will not only provide initial and post consumer interaction but will more rapidly be employed within an organization to automate the plethora of mundane (and often redundant) tasks that befall every agent once they obtain a listing. I believe agents, the human versions, will move more towards the buy side for several years until they, too, are replaced by bots. Listing bots are virtually here and within a few years will take over every aspect of a consumer listing their property for sale. Agents whose incomes are generated primarily from listings will soon be a thing of the past, believe me!

Debi Lafayette · Commented on 6 successful young agents share their words of wisdom

I am an agent of 16 years experience and last summer added two young agents (both 23 years old) to my team. I love working with them! They very much reflect the opinions of the agents in the article, but Inman could also do a follow up article regarding the benefits to us (older) agents who are mentoring younger agents. I share my knowledge and common sense business practices and they have widened my horizons with not only social media, videos (ugh!) etc, but also are infectious with their passion to succeed!!
