Although millennials often get a bad rap for being “lazy” and “entitled,” they can break through these stereotypes and run a lucrative business.

Here are a few tips for millennial real estate agents to keep in mind if they want to grow a successful business in today’s marketplace.

Employ old-school marketing methods

Because you grew up with technology, you are probably a pro at using social media and all of the latest software to establish valuable connections and expand your network. However, this is not enough to grow your business.

Traditional marketing techniques are still an essential part of real estate success. This includes: sending cards via snail mail, attending and speaking at events, talking to people offline and more.

It’s one thing to create a relationship online, and it’s another to build that relationship at in-person meetings where you really get to know potential clients and establish trust.

Build personal confidence

If you don’t feel comfortable marketing and promoting your business offline, do what you need to do to build that confidence.

Whether that means hiring a coach, doing practice calls and videos or finding another way, just start taking action. It will help you grow in a positive direction.

When I started out, I wrote a blog about my experiences and didn’t think anyone was reading it. But then, people began to ask me about it when I attended events.

Potential clients actually wanted to hear what I had to say, and it lead to more calls about hiring me as a real estate agent.

I presented myself as a successful real estate agent, even if I wasn’t that confident starting out. My audience saw that tenacity and wanted to work with me.

This positive response helped reassure me that I could create a successful real estate business; I set big goals and reached them.

Work hard — it’s not optional

If you really want to be successful in real estate, you can’t simply rely on technology, making calls, handling out business cards and doing what everyone else is doing.

Instead, it’s important to focus on creating a brand where you develop long-term relationships. It’s not about one transaction. It’s about getting referrals and being specific as to whom you’re trying to target as a client.

And this takes work. You need to figure out how to reach your target audience, engage with these people effectively, build credibility, make their needs a priority and provide phenomenal services they will tell their friends about.

This involves being knowledgeable in your field, reaching out to the right people at the right time and facing challenges head-on to reach your goals.

Being a successful millennial in today’s real estate world is possible.

As a fellow millennial who has broken the stereotypes about our generation, don’t let your age stand in the way of growing a successful real estate business.

Combine top technology skills with proven and traditional marketing techniques, invest in building your personal confidence and brand, and work hard. Your real estate business will grow, and your age won’t even be a factor.
