Re: 'Hangin' in the realty office' (Feb. 18)

Dear Editor:

Alison, this is a well-articulated piece about the balance of being in the office and not. Whereas in the past, offices were used as adult day-care centers, today they are more like airports for refueling and picking up cargo, information and passengers.

That being said, not being in the office at all can result in a disconnect, especially for newer agents.  more...

Mortgage woes aren't all alike

In the rampant finger-pointing that has characterized the country's current mortgage crisis, homeowners have come in for their share of the blame. Indeed, much of the punditry and backyard-fence gossip has focused on the misguided financial decisions that landed so many people in troubles seemingly of their own devices.  more...

Re: 'Being an agent is being a non-expert' (Feb. 11)

Dear Editor:

I think it's always been true that you can only lead them to the water. I don't really care what they buy, that's up to them, but I do feel good when I find the one they want, and I know it's the one.

But what drove me out of the business for several years was what happened after they made the offer and the transaction challenges arose.  more...

Re: 'Walk-away homeowners are bitter pill for real estate' (Feb. 12)

Dear Editor:

Marcie is right on the rise of this type of loan default! Purely by coincidence at about the same time as Marcie's article was posted, I was already writing about this phenomenon in my most recent post at JimREJournal.blogspot.com.

Re: 'Walk-away homeowners are bitter pill for real estate' (Feb. 12)

Dear Editor:

Marcie's article makes it sound like it is a flip decision on the part of many homeowners to abandon their homes. While there may be some who "ditch" the house, many struggle with the emotional crisis of having to give up a home that they invested both dollars and hopes for a better future.  more...

Re: 'Why bailout may be the only saving grace' (Feb. 8)

Dear Editor:

I have a lot of respect for Lou Barnes' opinion on anything financial, but I have one overriding problem with his suggestion for the government (i.e., taxpayers) to absorb or somehow subsidize bad mortgages. That is, anyone with an ounce of sense had to see this housing/credit bust coming, yet no one did a thing to stop it because too many players were getting rich off the business.  more...

Re: 'Continuing education: Is it relevant?' (Feb. 4)

Dear Editor:

You will be surprised to learn that the requirement for Continuing Education is not all about you. It's not all about getting people to sign contracts so that you can make more money faster. It is about broadening your knowledge base to enable you to do a better job for you clients and customers.  more...
