Goodbye to Google ranking

Inman Community brief

Inman News®

As 21st-century real estate professionals, it might be impossible to understate the importance of Google. Not only does Google provide many professionals with free tools for business through Google Apps, but Google search-engine rankings are a pillar of every real estate professional's Internet presence.

Inman member Cheryl Waller started a very interesting discussion about the future of Google's search ranking system. The discussion is lively, and it is most certainly important for any professional who has or wants a significant Internet presence. You can read the discussion on her topic, "Goodbye to Google Ranking."

I think the change will do us good. Relevance of content will force webmasters to really understand the need for understanding and promoting their sites to help the end user. If search engines allow those with relevant content to the top, then less spam will certainly follow. I hope it is effective.

World War I was the 'war to end all wars', too. Online search is only being refined to better market pay per click. Organic search will remain largely as it is. No company would ever scrap a product and a method that gives it a 65% market share and the folks at Google are not stupid.

Localize your optimization; it works better.

Remember Chicken Little; hit on the head by a falling acorn, he ran around saying "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!"

Anyone saying organic search is dead, dying or headed for the junkpile needs to learn from Chicken Little: It just ain't so.

the pover of google rankings, search engine results seem unnatural to me. Unnatural in such a free. diverse and compettitive environment as the internet. hats off to google they have done their job well, but their dominace or the weight of googles "word" over who gets to be seen, who gets to be found a just seems unnaturally heavy to last. Everyone and their grandmother wants to be seen, so the fact that one (private) organization is in such a gatekeepers position just strikes me as "out of balance". No doubt any change would take time and if they continue do their job well (google), they may just keep innovating enough that their dominace holds on. I for one am very interested in seeing wether a "david" will emerge or wether innovation will change the way we do things.
