NYC broker embraces 'mobile tagging'

Bar codes in print ads take smartphone users to website

Inman News®

A New York City broker is incorporating scannable quick-response bar codes in her print ads, allowing would-be buyers to use camera-equipped, Web-enabled smartphones to click on the codes and be taken to a landing page on the broker's website.

Broker Toni Haber plans to put the "QR codes" on t-shirts and hats to market her properties to vacationers in the Hamptons this summer, BrickUnderground reports.

Inman News columnist Joseph Ferrara envisions that QR codes will also be printed on real estate signs, allowing potential buyers to "do a drive-by" with their smartphone camera and be linked to a Web page with a video or virtual tour of the home, listing details, photos, neighborhood information, driving directions, and the listing agent's contact information.

It's easier and faster to take a picture or scan a QR code than type a website URL, Ferrara said, and early adopters of "mobile tagging" will get extensive mainstream and social media coverage that will arouse curiousity and consumer interest.

Hi, I too see the future and tagging is up and coming but there are 4 or 5 platforms that require "their" software to be loaded in the phone for it to work.

In my Iphone I have 3 of them but I never know to scan which code with which app.. remember Betamax vs VHS? Same problem!

Nice innovation. I like the idea of connecting the broker to the people who look for them. Being able to do this with the help of your mobile phone is even better. I hope to see further more, enhanced and genuine innovations as well. Applications, that allows the user to connect socially is what the people have been looking for now. Various applications have been discovered lately, but most of them are based on entertainment purpose only. The mobile applications creators shall also brainstorm about building new applications regarding business men and so on.
