Predictions:

  • The 2010 market will be different than any real estate professional has ever seen. New approaches and new skills will be required to succeed.
  • Generational differences and how to work with them will be a critical skill for survival and success.
  • Realtor associations will need to change their business model and their services to adapt to the rapidly changing market.

It was disappointing to see some overjoyed about the extended govt subsidies. Any agent or company that needs these subsidies to survive should find another career field. Indirectly the subsidy is directed to agents. Never has any market that has been manipulated not paid for the manipulation at some point in the future. Other than political pandering the subsidies are of no benefit and only contribute to the term 'greedy Realtor'.
It would be nice if lenders are able to become a little less stringent. obama is telling the banks to lend while the experts (banking regulators) are telling them to shore up teir balance sheets or they will cease to exist.
Jobs are what is needed. Sadly, obama-care, promised higher taxes, and 'cap & trade' will send more jobs offshore as well as cause additional lay-offs and less expansion. It looks to be about 2013 before some of the 'hope' can be realized as the 'change' has not been good.

The skills needed for this upcoming year for real estate will need to be AMAZING. Before it was by the book, but this time, you need some tough skin! But it will be a good thing to have come from such trials and tribulations that we will all be smarter in some way because of what has happened. Check out this blog that talks more about the 2010 forecast and has some great insight about the year to come.
