What does it take to partner with The Corcoran Group, the New York City brokerage that’s branched out into the Hamptons and South Florida? Bill Begert, the company’s vice president of field operations, says, “Any value that a partner brings has to be along the lines of ‘What do they bring to the table that makes it possible for Corcoran to give better information to people, more helpful guidance, and enables us to do our jobs in a way that is even more fleshed out?’ ”

Many clients see real estate agents as “the go-to person for a whole host of questions,” including not only what a neighborhood is really like, but where they can find the right carpenter or decorator. On top of knowing how to sell property, agents “are expected to be kind of an encyclopedia of lifestyle tips,” Begert says.
