Phew! Airbnb renters turn out to be prostitutes, not drug dealers

A Washington, D.C., woman who used Airbnb to rent her apartment to two men grew suspicious when they showed up at her door without any luggage. Both were wearing fanny packs, which led the woman and her boyfriend to think that they might be drug dealers. When they Googled a cell phone number that one of the men had used to book the apartment, they discovered a website offering “male-on-male nude massage services,” PandoDaily reports.

After extracting a promise from the men that they would not service clients at her apartment, the woman was still willing to let them stay there — the two had “great reviews” on Airbnb, and had booked the same apartment once before without incident. The woman changed her mind when she found out that the men had already invited a client over.

Airbnb canceled the reservation, paid the woman in full for the reservation, and has promised to pay for a cleaning service. Although it’s likely that such incidents are rare, PandoDaily reports that the woman feels “completely violated” and doesn’t think she will use Airbnb “ever again. Most people are normal, but it seems really easy for something like this to happen.” Source: pandodaily.com
