Redfin took advantage of a feature in Apple’s new, free operating system released yesterday, OS X Mavericks, that allows it to send push notifications associated with a user’s saved search on the real estate site through Apple’s Safari Web browser.
Apple users who download the new desktop operating system and conduct a search on Redfin using Safari have the option to receive instant alerts that show up in the upper right-hand corner of the computer when a home comes onto the market, is sold, sees a price reduction or when a Redfin agent writes a note about it. Safari doesn’t need to be running for the alerts to pop up.
