The net worth of U.S. households and nonprofits shot up $1.3 trillion in the second quarter thanks to rising home prices and stock market gains, according to a Federal Reserve report released today.

Collectively, American households’ balance sheets rose 1.8 percent in the quarter to $74.82 trillion, the highest level since 1945 without considering the effects of inflation.
