Social media in 1 hour a day

From Future of Real Estate Marketing

Inman News®

One of the topics people ask me frequently about is social media; specifically, they ask me for how to make the best use of their time. Anyone who has dived into social media knows that it is not "free" -- it takes time and a thoughtful effort to make it worth your while.

If you are like me, and seem to be "always connected" -- whether it's Twitter, Foursquare, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. -- it's a great reminder that you need to be smart with your time. If you're not careful, social media can be a time-suck!

So how can you be smarter with your time?

Plan social media into your schedule for one hour a day: 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes late in the day.

The key here is multitask, move fast and don't get distracted.

If I were a real estate agent, this is how I would do it:

In the morning: First thing after or before you check your e-mail.

1. Turn on your computer. Open seven windows: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, your Web site, your blog, your favorite news Web site (i.e., Inman News), and your favorite "drip marketing" social media site (my fave is Hootsuite). Move fast and don't get distracted.

2. Facebook: Scroll through the page and make three comments on other people's posts. Post what you are up to that day. Respond to anyone who has commented on you or left you a message. Move fast and don't get distracted.

3. Twitter. Click your "@" button (i.e., @katielance). Anyone who has mentioned you -- thank them publicly. Respond to DMs (direct messages). Scroll through your home page and re-tweet three things of interest. Move fast and don't get distracted. ...CONTINUED

Katie - This is such a great schedule for folks to start and stay consistent with their social media strategy. You are so right, that it can be a "time-suck", but done correctly can be quite rewarding !

I will be teaching a Social Media class for the Realtors in my office this week and will definitely print out this article to share with them ! Thank you : )

Great concept. However, having tried your concept for a week, I find it difficult to get everything done. I have altered your approach to better fit with my business model, but your concept gave me great direction to set my SM efforts into a useful and purposeful framework.

I like the concept, but I view social media as sharing ideas and commenting on ideas as I see them. If I can make a comment using my iphone I will, otherwise it is hard to keep up with life, work and the internet.

Great article!
All this social stuff. We used to call and have an intimate chat with good friends. And I loved it.
Help! I feel like I am drowning and I have barely stepped off into these social waters. Does anyone else feel this way?

Time management is important when your in the business. You need to do a lot of things to manage your business. You need to plan and implement those carefully. Social media is one way of marketing your business though this will not work if you don't carefully plan and do it.

Thanks,

Very interesting article. I work in social media management and I think it can be a full-time job. However, using HootSuite is VERY helpful!

Many UK cities can be tricky to negotiate and have varied parking provision, but are also served by Park and Ride bus services, which allow you to park just outside the city and take a bus to its centre. Likewise, many of the UK's more modern landmarks and attractions - such as the Eden Project in St Austell, Cornwall - provide ample parking and run shuttle buses to the main attraction. With so much of the British countryside to explore, cheap UK car hire will enable you to make the most of your visit.
Cheap car hire UK deals are best found using our price comparison tool and should be booked in advance to secure your vehicle. If flying into, the UK, an airport pick up is the most convenient way of collecting your hire car. Some car hire UK companies also provide one way car rental service, with pick up and drop off at differing depots and there are many car hire pick up points in the UK's towns and cities.

The above given schedule is especially for a real estate agent to know what is going in the market is very necessary. I am also a real estate agent and by using social networking websites like facebook, twitter etc we can get the updates. The thing I like the most in post is letting me know more about fifth gear
which is very important in marketing of real estate business. I get distract a lot of time when I am working. I also want to add in the schedule is replying my existing customers questions which is one of the toughest task for me and is where I get distracted to much.

I have recently checked real estate agent reviews where I come to know the real story of real estate agents and I get distracted a lot of time when I am working.
