Century 21 launches official blog
Blog offers buying and selling advice, social media feeds
By Inman News, Thursday, February 17, 2011.Real estate franchise giant and Realogy subsidiary Century 21 Real Estate has launched a blog it hopes will be a "conversation starter" between consumers and industry professionals, the company announced this week.
The blog, @C21 - Home Matters, offers homebuying and selling advice from agents and brokers, industry news, and information about seasonal trends. The blog also features a social media hub that displays the company's Facebook posts, Twitter feed, Flickr photos and YouTube videos.
"In today's rapidly changing marketplace, we wanted to provide consumers with a content-rich source for community conversation around the homeownership, homebuying and selling experience," said Bev Thorne, Century 21's spokesperson, in a statement.
The Century 21 network includes more than 8,000 offices in 73 countries and territories.

I am not sure how launching a blog in 2011 is at all newsworthy. Forward-thinking brokerages have been communicating with blogs and other social media for 5+ years, so not sure what took so long for this prominent national brand to get on board.
Publishing consumer-friendly materials online is beneficial to any real estate brokerage, but so far this new blog seems to be a mouthpiece for C21 to trumpet why it is "a great time to buy." Did this painful market downturn teach us nothing about unabashed market cheerleading?

Agree with Kevin's comments above. Our brokerage has a blog that is authored by over 300 agents talking about their communities, challenges and market trends since 2007.
Another example of trying to produce a site for the masses when we live in a hyper local world.
